What began 23 years ago as Manuela’s solo journey has transformed into a thriving, internationally accredited studio and academy, now bolstered by the addition of Dereck. A few years ago, he earned his international certification and officially joined the business, bringing fresh energy and perspective to their work. Together, they form a powerful husband-and-wife team, delivering innovative treatments and class training. Dereck's contributions, alongside Manuela's expertise in permanent makeup, paramedical tattooing, and advanced aesthetic therapies, are shaping the future of the industry through Manuela's academy’s comprehensive programs.

For me, scalp micro-pigmentation (SMP) isn’t just a service — it’s a way of giving back to humanity. I’ve always believed in the power of giving; that in giving, we open ourselves to receiving. Becoming an SMP artist was my way of contributing something meaningful — restoring confidence and helping people rediscover their identity through a renewed sense of style and self-esteem.
Hair loss affects people for many different reasons — from genetics to illness or stress — but the impact is often same: a blow to one’s confidence. Many feel they have to hide under hats or avoid social situations altogether. Their self-image takes a hit, and it can influence everything from how dress to how they engage with the world. That sense of being held back, of having to hide, can be incredibly isolating.
SMP people a way to reclaim their confidence. It gives them the freedom to walk tall again — no longer feeling like they have to hide or explain. I’ve seen first-hand how transformative this process can be, and that’s what drives. Helping someone feel like themselves again, watching them step into their power with pride — that’s what inspires me every single day.

With over 23 years of experience, Manuela is a true pioneer in the field of micropigmentation. She is the founder of Manuela Micropigmentation Studio & Academy, an internationally accredited training center based in Sandton, South Africa. Manuela specializes in permanent makeup, paramedical tattooing, tattoo removal, and advanced aesthetic treatments using exclusive biomedical protocols. Her passion for education has led her to train hundreds of students both locally and internationally through her comprehensive 120-hour training programs. Known for her precision, warmth, and professionalism, Manuela continues to transform lives—not just through beauty, but through empowerment and skill-building.
